Joanne McGovern

I’m a UX researcher and content strategist who loves making complex information clear, useful, and human-friendly. With expertise in wireframing, prototyping, user testing, taxonomy design, and information architecture, I help teams discover what users truly need—and design with empathy at every step.

On the content side, I bring years of experience in writing, editing, content design, and strategy, from building websites and blogs to developing clear emergency communications when people need them most.

I’ve had the privilege of leading as the editor of a bilingual website, co-leading the U.S. federal government’s UX Community of Practice, and helping to guide my agency’s Research Guild. I also enjoy sharing knowledge—whether it’s through public speaking, workshops, or mentoring colleagues—because I believe great design is something we all get better at together.

While I was doing those things, working on a multidisciplinary team, agile development, product management, QA, and data analysis were integrated into my daily work.

When I’m not deep in an IA diagram, you’ll usually find me with my golden retriever or in the pottery studio. I love a good cat meme.

A woman with brown and gray hair, and purple mirror sunglasses lies in the grass beneath the head of a golden retriever.
